Low Water Finds is an offline record book for Thames mudlarks. It has no server, no account system, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. Nothing you enter or photograph ever leaves your device. This is reflected in the app's App Store privacy label: "Data Not Collected."
What the app stores, and where
Everything you record — sessions, finds, photos, spots, permit details and app settings — is written only to the app's private storage on your own iPhone or iPad. There is no backend server, no cloud sync and no third-party SDK bundled with the app. If you delete the app, that data is deleted with it. The Settings screen also offers an "Erase everything" action that clears all app data on request.
Camera
The app asks for camera access only when you tap "Take photo" while logging a find. The camera is used solely to photograph the item you found; no image is uploaded anywhere, uploaded for analysis, or shared with us. If camera access is declined, the app instead offers the photo library picker.
Photo library
You can attach an existing photo to a find using Apple's built-in photo picker (PHPicker). This picker runs outside the app's process, so the app only receives the specific photo you choose — it never gets general access to your photo library. A photo is written back to your library only if you explicitly choose "Save Image" from the share sheet on a find.
Notifications
The app can schedule local notifications for three things you turn on yourself: a leave-by alarm before your tide window closes, reminders as a Possible Treasure report's 14-day window runs down, and a permit renewal reminder. These are scheduled entirely on your device using Apple's notification framework. Nothing is sent to a server to generate them, and permission is requested only at the moment you switch on the relevant alarm or reminder.
Links that leave the app
The Guides and Permit screens link to two official third-party websites: the Port of London Authority's foreshore permit page and the Portable Antiquities Scheme (finds.org.uk). These open in an in-app Safari view. Visiting them is subject to those organisations' own privacy policies, not this one. The app itself does not send any of your data to those sites.
No account, no sign-in
Low Water Finds does not ask you to create an account, sign in, or provide an email address. It cannot identify you, and it does not attempt to.
Children's privacy
The app is a record-keeping tool aimed at permit-holding mudlarks and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, because it does not collect information at all.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change with it. Material changes will also be reflected in the app's own in-app Privacy summary and in the App Store "What's New" notes for the release that introduces them.
